The Basse Development Initiative Social Services

As the parent body, Basse Development Initiative (BDI) has set up respective chapters to facilitate its work. This Social Service section includes, the Health, Education, Sports and Disaster Management chapters. The respective chapters will oversee their sections but will be reporting directly to the main executive body. They will be responsible in managing their chapter’s day to day operations including raising funds to fund their respective programs. The chapter members were nominated by the main executive body comprising members both in the Diaspora and on the ground within the region.

The Basse Development Initiative Disaster Management Chapter

The Basse Development Initiative (BDI) Disaster Management is a chapter of the main group BDI. Constituted by the executive, the group’s main focus will be to analyze all risk which exposes residence of the Upper River Region (URR) to the potential life disruptions, both natural and man-made disasters. The group is currently focused on responding to identified risk with the long-term goal of preparedness in ensuring minimal disruption of life in the region. BDI recognized the need to assist victims when disaster strikes. Often victims mainly need immediate shelter and food to elevate the shock. We are with the belief that responding quickly no matter how small will make a huge difference in dealing with recovery.

On April 18, 2020, the Disaster management chapter responded to a family that needed help after their house was partially destroyed. The Disaster Management team was able to reach out and provide assistance to the family with a cash donation of D10,000. This small gesture was very much appreciated by the family and it also demonstrate a BDI value that “we are the keepers of our own destiny”.

To strengthen our Disaster Management Chapter, BDI will be looking for generous donors in and out of The Gambia. We invite you to reach out to our local coordinator Mr. MamadiNkuruma for any inquiries or those desiring to assist this initiative.
