Motivation and General Welfare of Healthcare Providers in Basse

BDI leadership had extensive meetings aimed at finding out factors that could potentially motivate healthcare providers working in Basse hospital and the satellite health facilities in the region. It became clear that certain incentives will need to be provided in order to retain their services within the region and at the same time maximize their potential at the workplace. Therefore the BDI leadership had created a committee that had conducted a need assessment, which had unveiled motivating and demotivating factors that had hindered the deployment of medical and health staff to the region. As a result of this exercise, the BDI leadership has designed schemes that are designed to complement the existing working conditions with short and long-term benefits for individual staff and their families.

Listed below are some of the schemes being proposed and fundraising activities will be carried out to support the activities and ensure sustainability:-

Subsidized Housing Schemes: Discuss with the community leaders: Governor, chief, alkalo and local government authorities in identifying compounds and negotiating with stakeholders to subsidize the cost and ensure access to essential amenities

Hardship Allowances: Provide reasonable support in helping to generate funds for paying allowances to staff in a sustainable way

Monthly/Annual Awards: Provide attractive prizes to high performing staff to encourage others to emulate and create a highly competitive working environment with the overall aim of improving patient care.

Maintenance, Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization Unit

BDI leadership takes the maintenance of equipment, Building, Electrical, and water supply systems within the hospital as a priority area. Since our organization is exploring all possible ways of assisting with building structures and providing the necessary essential materials required to upgrade the Basse Hospitals, it is prudent to invest in this area.

The safe disposal of hazardous and infected materials using incinerators will also form part of this unit. The cleanliness of the hospital and its environment will require highly dedicated and trained human resources and this invariably will also call for sustainable sources of funding. Sterilization of surgical materials to avoid nosocomial infections is one of great importance in providing effective health care services, particularly in rural settings.
